Cherry Macaroons

1- 1 1/3 cup shortening
1- 1 ½ cup sugar
2- 2 eggs
2- 1 ½ tsp almond extract
3- 3 ½ cup flour
3- 2 tsp baking powder
3- 2 tsp soda
3- 1 tsp salt
4- 1 ½ cup coconut
4- 1 cup maraschino cherries

Mix in number order. Batter will be stiff. Drop by spoon full on cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8 minutes until brown.
